 Hi alyssa--
oops-- sorry-- didn't intend to take a swipe at classical music when I was
complementing folkies for being sincere...
And my Concise Oxford Dictionary of English Etymology  DOES claim that
those two words have the same origin  - from the latin for "make"....

the same Dictionary also claims that folk is related to the old Germanic
word "folkam" for people, or army...  I'm not touching that line!
