NORLAND WIND featuring Clannad guitarist Ian Melrose, Celtic harper =
Thomas Loefke, and vocalist/guitarist Kerstin Blodig are on tour in =
Canada from October 6 - 15, 2000. Some dates are still available for =
Ontario presenters.=20

Norland Wind and Clannad, are closely connected =96 while Clannad's =
Duggan brothers join Norland Wind once a year for a tour, Clannad =
invited Norland Wind's Ian Melrose to join the band, as Clannad were =
looking for a guitarist. After CLANNAD's tour through Germany in 1996 =
with NORLAND WIND, Noel & Padraig Duggan of CLANNAD suggested Ian =
Melrose for the job of lead guitarist with CLANNAD for the May '96 tour =
of Ireland, Great Britain and Holland. They were obviously pleased with =
him and offered him the rest of the "World Tour =9196", which included =
Australia, New Zealand and Japan. In addition, Ian Melrose is part of =
Clannad's most recent studio album "Landmarks" (1998).=20

The Clannad connection allowed Norland Wind to release their debut album =
on the Celtic Heartbeat label (distributed by Universal). Norland Wind's =
harper Thomas Loefke commented, "Celtic Heartbeat was founded by the =
management of U2 and the management of Clannad, and as Norland Wind is a =
group with Clannad musicians involved, and Celtic Heartbeat at that time =
were just starting to get together a repertoire, they were happy to =
release the album =96 and we were, too." And has the international =
contract brought advantages? "Yes, it is something different =96 when he =
toured with Clannad, Ian has looked from time to time where the CD was =
available =96 so it can be found in the shops all over the world; but =
that does not mean we are having huge CD sales worldwide, it just means =
that we could theoretically have them. And that is at least better than =
not having the theoretical possibility." Still, Norland Wind's =
composition =82The Snowy Birchtrees', to be found on the sampler CD "A =
Celtic Heartbeat Christmas", reached in December '96 number 3 in the =
American World Music Charts.

"Between The Sighs" is the latest recording by Ian Melrose, the Scottish =
guitarist who lives in Germany (and performs with Clannad and Norland =
Wind). The CD is divided between traditional (and traditional sounding) =
solo guitar pieces and more contemporary numbers. Melrose is a very =
versatile player; his interpretations of the traditional tunes are very =
fluid and precise. His contemporary pieces tend to be more =
introspective, more exploratory, yet no less melodic and enjoyable. =
Occasional percussion, bouzouki and flute fill out a few of the tracks. =
