GUEST STARS CHOSEN FOR FIFTH ANNUAL
MAPLE BLUES AWARDS PRESENTATIONS
SET FOR TORONTO'S PHOENIX THEATRE JAN. 39

Three of the nominees for the annual Maple Blues Awards will perform 
at the fifth annual presentations of the honours, designed to 
recognize leading figures in Canada's booming blues scene. The event 
is set for Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre on Tuesday January 29, 
2002.
	Paul Reddick, leader of The Sideman, the Toronto band which 
(along with its members and its producer) has been nominated for no 
less than nine awards, will be joined by Montreal singer Dawn Tyler 
Watson and Saltspring Island's guitar ace Harry Manx. 
	Dawn is one of the five nominees for Female Vocalist of  the 
Year, Harry Manx is nominated as Acoustic Artist of the Year, while 
his debut release, Dog My Cat, is nominated for Recording of the Year.
	All three will perform with an all-star band of instrumental 
nominees led by Downchild Blues Band bassist Gary Kendall. 
	Tickets for the event are now on sale.

WHEN: Tuesday January 29: Doors open at 7 p.m. for cocktails and hors
	d'oeuvres.  Awards and guest performances at 8:30 p.m., 
followed by all-star jam
WHERE: Phoenix Concert Theatre, 410 Sherbourne St., Toronto
TICKETS:  $28.00 ($20.00 for nominees and Toronto Blues Society
	Members) at all Ticketmaster outlets (416 870-8000, or at
	www.ticketmaster.com), Pages Books, and BackBeat Records

FEATURED GUESTS:  Dawn Tyler  Watson, Paul Reddick, Harry Manx
ALL-STAR BAND:  Gary Kendall (leader, bass), Mike Fonfara (keyboards),
	Tom Bona (drums), Jack de Keyzer (guitar), Al Lerman, Pat
	Carey (saxes), Chris Whiteley (trumpet)

Meanwhile, ballots from across the country are still coming in - 
thanks to the co-operation of other blues organizations across the 
country which have distributed ballots to members.  To be counted, 
ballots must be received in Toronto by January 11.
	The event is Canada's only national awards ceremony for 
artists, record companies, and others who work on the country's blues 
scene, and is organized by the Toronto Blues Society.
