A performer got up on our Open Stage and explained that when pressed for
his favourite song of all time he admits to five, one of them being Doug
MacArthur's, then proceeded to sing Black Eyed Susan.
It is a strange business wherein time creates our heroes. Oh I admit that
in the pop business the heroes are alive, or at least quite visible. But
boy do they fade into obscurity fast. Whereas in Folk, Blues and Jazz time
(and talent) seems to be the main determinant for herodom.
Non-professionals come in these days playing songs by Ian Tamblyn, Bob
Stark, Lynn Miles, Terry Tufts, David Wiffen, Jesse Winchester, Willie P
Bennett, the list is getting very long.
My New Years wish to all,
may you be around long enough to be a hero.
Hugs, a better thing to do with arms
