This is intended for music people and clubs to ask for assistance to recommend a suitable club / location to host this year's Earthday Benefit Concert. Last year's (2001) concert was at the Tranzac Club, and the previous year (2000) was at the Silver Dollar. The theme has always been acoustic and roots music for the planet. Past year's performers have included such local talent as Norm Hacking, Tony Quarrington, Eve Goldberg, Ron Korb, of course Myself, and many other generous dedicated artists.
All of the following details are flexible, and offered as a discussion point - The preferred dates would be either of the two Saturdays during Earth week, which are April 20 or 27 2002. Proceeds at the are donated directly to Earthday Canada, (no expenses taken out) - and the club would generate their revenue from the sale of drinks and food. The ideal club would be situated in Toronto, seat over 200 people, have suitable sound system and acoustics for an acoustic venue, a bar, food preferred - and view this event as a good opportunity to benefit the planet as well as make some money.
In the way of background - this is the third year that I have produced and promoted a benefit concert with proceeds going to Earthday Canada. They are not only a great cause to play for, but also a very appreciative and supportive organization to work with. From previous year's experience, I have found Earthday Canada to be very well connected to press and media, and work hard to publicize and promote this event. Everyone who has participated in the past has always left with priceless rewards, (and good publicity!).
If you are a club owner who wants to discuss hosting this event or anyone who can offer suggestions as to a location - I would appreciate your response and recommendations.
In the near future I will be looking for performers to volunteer their time, as well as many of the special resources within our local folk community to assist with promotion, artwork etc. It's one of those events where everybody wins, and gives us a chance to use our privileged voices to spread the word and pay back the planet.
Thanks for taking the time to read this far. Please respond to the list if it will further the cause, or directly to myself.
Peace and sunshine,
Brian Gladstone
