S o n  A c h é  -  Son Cubano

On Thursday February 7th at 8:00 pm, Worlds of Music Toronto and the Hart
House Music Committee present an evening of Cuban music to warm the winter
blues. Arbor Room, Hart House, 7 Hart House Circle. Free admission.

Bringing a diverse and rich musical experience from five different
countries, the members of SON ACHE met in Toronto to interpret and compose
their favourite music, son montuno, the root of contemporary salsa.The Son
Aché sound is solidly based in the Cuban guajiro tradition of guitars,
percussion and voices. This rural roots sound is revitalized by the band,
incorporating more aggressive, high energy rhythms that reflects the
group's urban make-up. By doing so, Son Aché broadens the appeal of son for
a wider audience of dancers and music lovers.

Son Aché has a loyal club following that boasts some of Toronto's finest
dancers. The group's regular Friday night shows at Cervejaria have been
frequented by members of some of the world's premiere Cuban musicians. The
Legendary Compay Segundo and members of Afro Cuban All-Stars have come to
the club after their concert at Massey Hall, singers Félix Valoy
(Buenavista) and Pedro Calvo (Los Van Van) joined Son Aché on stage for an
unrehearsed night of son and boleros to the delight of the audience.

Son Aché has just released a four song promo-cd with original material that
distinguishes the group from many local Latin bands, who are often content
with playing well known standards.
Some of the group's recent compositions incorporate Latin jazz, salsa, love
songs and ballads.
All the while, encouraging the dancers in the audience to move!
