[mplpost] CANADIAN'S AIRPLAY 2001 - part 2

This posting is part 2 of an examination of the airplay received by 
Canadian performers as playlisted on the folkdj-l listserve and 
reported in surveys done by Harry Bryan and Richard Gillmann.  Harry 
examined 5,942 playlists on which Canadians had 10,824 spins. 
Richard's reports were based on 155,051 international airplays.

It should be obvious that these reports are not part of a scientific 
process.  500 performers did not provide 500 CD's to 500 dj's and the 
airplays tallied.

It also needs to be stressed that a number of Canadian acts, of folk 
festival mainstage, and Juno award nomination quality, do not get 
significant Folkdj-l airplay.  As discussions on this issue have 
reinforced, the probable reason for this is that those performers, or 
their record companies, have not serviced U.S. folk radio stations. 
After the Folk Alliance conference in Vancouver last February, many 
Canadian acts began to show up for the first time on Folkdj-l 
playlists.

The following chart indicates the number of months in 2001 performers 
made the Canadian top 10 airplay lists, which ranked those acts who 
attained, or tied for, the most individual airplays in a given month.

In the list below, performers preceeded by a * made their first ever 
appearance (since March '96) in the top 10.
