From Chris Quinn:
The second annual Banjo Special is coming up.
Here’s who’s who.
Chris Coole and Arnie Naiman are two of the very best clawhammer and old
time banjo players there are. They have two beautiful CD’s of their work.
From Sligo Ireland, Brian Taheny is a virtuoso multi instrumentalist. His
rarely heard skill on Irish tenor banjo is something to behold.
I, Chris Quinn, play bluegrass banjo and am regarded as being a very hard
driving, bluesy and creative player. I play in the style of Earl Scruggs,
but have been known to wander.
The performance will consist of intimate dialogue with audience, analysis of
different styles, techniques and approaches, Q and A, and playing the damn
banjo. Audience members are encouraged to bring instruments to show, sell,
trade etc…………
The performance will be on January 25th, 2002 at 9:00PM at the Tranzac Club
at 292 Brunswick Avenue. It’s just south of Bloor and west of Spadina.
Tickets are $14 at the door or $12 in advance. Reserved tickets can be
requested by calling Chris Coole at (416) 516-3796.
In other news, Chris Coole and I have formed a new bluegrass band called The
Foggy Hogtown Boys. It’s a pretty traditional outfit. All around one
microphone, bobbing and weaving in and out. The members are Chris Coole on
guitar and vocals, John Showman on fiddle, Andrew Collins on mandolin and
vocals, John McNaughton on acoustic bass and vocals and yours truly on banjo
and vocals.
We started a Saturday afternoon matinee at The Black Friar at 989 College
west of Dovercourt. We’re on from 4:00 – 7:00PM and so far it’s been a
rousing success! Hopefully you’ll make it out. We return for 2002 on
January 12th.

Chris Quinn
