Tue Jan 8 - Open Stage with host Trevor Mills
8pm, no cover

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Wed Jan 9 - Ruth Jenkins, John Stroud, Dave Taylor
8:30, $6

These three performers come to Hugh's Room via the Tuesday open stage.
Ruth, John and Dave have known each other for years and always enjoy
getting together and exchanging songs. Expect this to be a fun night
of collaboration, old familiar songs and some new unexpected songs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Thu Jan 10 - Nathan Caswell, Spooky Moon, Harmony Trowbridge
8:30, $6

Critics have said that Nathan Caswell could be "the baby brother of
the Barenaked Ladies and Billy Bragg"; "a Lorne Elliott in waiting";
or what you might get "if you crossed Ogden Nash with Lenny Bruce and
mixed in the sound of Cat Stevens." It's no surprise that Nathan has
built a following across Canada for his unique brand of music and
comedy, characterized by irreverent wit, impeccable delivery and
charming stage presence.

For the past two years, Nathan has toured his one-man musical comedy
show Sucking Chest Wound (and other love songs) to Fringe Festivals
across Canada and the U.S. He has performed to sold-out audiences in
Winnipeg, Edmonton, Minneapolis and Thunder Bay. At home, Nathan is a
regular performer on popular folk and comedy stages around Toronto.

Spooky Moon

This eclectic folk quintet is a vocally-driven dynamo; their forte is
their four and five-part vocal arrangements, combining three male
and two female voices, all of theatre and stage quality. This is only
to be expected, as four of the five current members have backgrounds
in musical theatre!

While much of the band's repertoire is comprised of original material,
their range is broad indeed, spanning traditional ballads and a
capella broadsides, rollicking topical tunes, poignant yet pointed
laments, love lyrics, latino, bluegrass, Beatles, and Moxy Fruvous!

Instrumentally, the band's sound is built on the intricate guitar
stylings of resident arranger and tunesmith Dave Light, ably
assisted on bass by local folk veteran and Mudcatter Jeremiah
McCaw-Budnark.

Founding member and lyricist Sharon Light carries the soprano vocals,
with alto Melanie Campbell and tenor Huw Evans adding drama, power,
and versatility.

Harmony Trowbridge

Harmony Trowbridge is a young singer songwriter who is quickly making
herself known in the Toronto music scene. Exploring, creating,
blending and enjoying a variety of musical genres (from folk to pop,
country to jazz, cabaret to blues,) while maintaining a passionate
attention to words in play, she serves up a listening experience like
no other.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Fri Jan 11 - Uncle Herb & The Country Rogues
8:30, $5

Uncle Herb & The Country Rogues featuring Uncle Herb Dale on guitar
& vocals, Adam Blair on guitar & vocals, and Ferdinand Blom on bass,
guitar and vocals.

Classic country tunes from Merle Haggard to Johnny Cash, including 50s
and 60s rock n roll. Executing his music in a traditional country
fashion, Uncle Herb is a cowboy or at least as close to one as
Toronto is going to get.

Sat Jan 12 - Daisy DeBolt CD Release! "Live Each Day With Soul"
8:30, $15

Daisy DeBolt releases her new jazz album "Live Each Day With Soul",
a tribute to her Mother Marjorie DeBolt, a well known jazz musician
from Winnipeg.

This has been a long time dream of hers to record a jazz album with
Canada's top players and arrangers and sing with a horn section a
block long.

All the music is original compositions and co-writes with George
Koller, Tony Quarrington , Michael Ondaatje, and one standard "Cry Me
A River".

Songs of the soul with an edge.

Daisy and her producer Tony Quarrington have chosen Canada's most
innovative musicians, with Phil Dwyer as leader of the horn section
consisting of Tom Skublics, Terry Lukiwski, and Daniel Lapp;
monster keyboard/B3 player Doug Riley; bassist George Koller; Marty
Cordrey on drums; accordion virtuosos Tiina Kiik and Bob Derkach;
and guest appearances with Jane Bunnett, Roberto Occhipinti, Victor
Bateman, Marg Stowe and Dave Restivo.

Daisy will be joined on stage by Marg Stowe (guitar, vocal),
Tony Quarrington (guitar, mandolin, vocal), George Koller (bass,
vocal) and Bill Usher (percussion).

It doesn't get better than this, live off the floor and burning!
