speaking of Readers in Dunnville and Luther Wright & the Wrongs
the guys will be coming to our little venue this Saturday
should be a lot of fun
only about 6-7 tickets left if anyone's interested.
full house is 60 seats
And this Friday we will be treated to the sounds of the Rick Fines Trio
if you'd like to attend and reserve a seat please call 905-701-1919 or
e-mail at readers@kwic.com
back to books
also just finished reading the biography of Carl Perkins
"Go Cat Go"
especially enjoyed the period in the late forties up to the early sixties
but then the author goes through the next 30 years in a couple of chapters.
Haven't figured out if his life so far has been sad or gratifying(guess a
little of both)
all i know is it's great to own a bookstore with a large section on music
related subjects

tattooed on their tongues - loved that one, it's a *great* read for
roots/americana fans. i thought escott's hank williams bio was really good
too.
this is a timely thread - just got off the phone with steel player
extrordinaire burke carroll, who was raving about a nick tosches book that
col tom loaned him. it's called "where dead voices gather", and it's a
griel marcus-esque riff on america in the 20's/30's using jazz singer
emmett miller (lovesick blues) as a jumping off point. (hmm..in the same
conversation, mark, he was speaking fondly about the reader's cafe in
dunville, which he's played a couple of times w/ luther wright).
i've just rekindled my latent gram parsons jones by reading sid griffin's
"gram parsons: a musical biography". cut & paste, fanzine-esque job with
lots of trivia. the 80's era emmy-lou interview is pretty good, as is the
chris hillmen, but things start to get dodgy when griffin interviews ex
road managers, peter fonda, etc. nevertheless, fun, lots of snaps,
including one (historical interest only, of course) of anita pallenburg w/
no pants. it's like reading a whole book of rolling stone random notes
about gram parsons - not everyone's idea of a good time, i guess.
