All are welcomed - any level of guitar skills will benefit. Bring your guitar and do some picking with us.

This week I wanted to do some Mississippi John Hurt picking styles - his alternating bass techniques form the basis of all the fingerpicking you will ever need! All you John Hurt wannabees -- hope you can make it this Thursday. It should be fun.

We use the hour before 'Norm's Living Room' at the Silver Dollar - so you can sign up for Norm Hacking's Open Stage - play a few tunes or just sit back and enjoy. Norm's guest this week is Don Bray. More Information is available at www.normhacking.com.

Thursday Jan 17, 2002 - Silver Dollar Room, Toronto. 7:00 - 8:00
486 Spadina N. of College

'Amazing Flying fingers can fingerpick and flatpick at the same time.' .. Tranzac club newsletter, June 2001.

' -- there's tremendous pleasure derived from listening to the soothing sounds of Gladstone's guitar.' DEREK TSE -- Toronto Sun Nov 18, 2001

See you there. Peace and sunshine,
Brian Gladstone

General Info:

The finger picking clinic happens just before Norm's (Hacking) Living Room. Everyone is welcome, no cost - Bring your guitar, and do some picking with Brian Gladstone. Or just bring yourself and do some listening. He will be breaking down the fine art of finger picking into bite size pieces - and demonstrate the basis of folk - ragtime - blues - jug band style, and of course his own original style of picking -- including techniques from many of the masters such as Mississippi John Hurt, Reverend Gary Davis, Blind Blake, Doc Watson, and more. Brian's guitar picking has been played on radio all over the world, . .. he has spent thirty years practicing daily! Recently he commented that he doesn't see a lot of young guitar players picking -- and wants to pass on this great tradition. All are welcome.
