When I released my first album, I was so excited and proud and in debt.I
think the debt was so overwhelming I hoisted myself up on to Cloud Nine,
where I would be safe.I was constantly telling myself "Its good ben,its
good,be confident send it out to every magazine and festival you can find!"
So I did.I amassed a stack of rejection form letters,filed them,one little
handwritten sentence on the side of the one from 'Folk on The Rocks' said
'really liked your stuff call again next year'that was enough for me,I was
crackin the industry shell,whoopee.
I also received a number of favourable reviews, the most generous
being local ones, then I got a letter from Dirty Linen.I almost peed my
pants I was so excited. They very nicely sent a letter saying I had been
reviewed and included a photocopy cut out of the review which totally
trashed my record and myself,it said something like not a hint of insight
,direction connection and something else, referred to me as a faint
flame, anyway,it was more than a bad revue,it was telling me to get out of
the business and get out fast. I was pretty bummed, but I picked up a copy
of the isssue when it came out.I noticed that all the reviews that had
been done by the same person who reviewed mine where like that.He or she
didn't like anybody,after that I didn't feel so bad,even though it sucked
that I had been trashed in one of what I considered to be an important
magazine in the Folk music industry. Not long after one of the producers
from Morningside called to have me on the show and I climbed back up the
ladder to my little Cloud .
Some people gonna like your music and some people ain't and
sometimes it has little to do with you at all.Nowadays, the only revues I
don't like are the ones that sit marginally on the fence.

 >Hi everyone,

>Here's a topic! This morning I accidentally discovered a negative review
>of my work (well, it was mixed really, but not exactly glowing) on an
>Internet site that, to my knowledge, I didn't even submit to. The shock,
>the horror! I'm feeling a little blue about it and wonder how any of you
>have coped with negative reviews (that is, if you've ever gotten any ;>).
>Do these things matter? Does anybody care? Does anybody know any
>assassins?
