true enough nancy. i'll never forget the time the illustrious tim perlich
of now magazine reviewed a CD by blues guitarist jimmie vaughn (stevie's
bro) the day before his ticketed concert at harbourfront centre. not only
did he slag the recording, he added that folks would want to bring a pillow
to the concert. and it wasn't a reflection on our less than comfortable
seating.

the box office had been building nicely until tim trashed this appearance
of a remarkable performer.

staying with the now mag thread, the blues community similarly laments the
poor coverage of artists, especially cdn/local.

however this week now mag broke with tradition and served up a truely
intelligent overview of paul reddick and the sidemen, one of the strongest
blues acts in the city. of course the coverage was fueled by association
with greatness (elsewhere), such as opening for b.b. king, 9 maple blues
award nominations and a w.c. handy nomination for best new blues group in
the states.

we could complain about reviewers forever here. sound like fun? reminds
me of a comment made recently by a senior colleague that a good seminar at
a conference would be to train/teach/educate critics...
