eastern" music performed by Mernie!  We are performing

Cover - $10 or $6 for the unwaged

Mernie! is Maryem and Ernie Tollar and 8 fabulous
musicians on the Toronto world music scene:

Levon Ichkhanian - guitar, oud
Andrew Downing - double bass, beatle bass
Debashis Sinha - riqq (Arabic tambourine), percussion
Rick Lazar - dumbek, congas
Daniel Barnes - drumkit
Jayne Brown - back-up vocals
Sophia Grigoriadis - back-up vocals
Yvette Tollar- back-up vocals

Mernie! draws from Maryem & Ernie's years of
performance and study of popular & traditional music
from North America, the Arab world and India.  Maryem
and Ernie have fashioned a sound that takes its
inspiration from many sources but emerges as an
original contribution to Canadian contemporary music.
Mernie! challenges stereotypes and preconceptions
about musical genre and definition.  Terms like jazz,
folk, world, east, west, traditional and contemporary
cease to make much sense.  What emerges is passionate,
beautiful and new music.

Come out to Hugh's room to see us off before we go to
Whitehorse and the Frostbite Festival.
