Tue Jan 22 - Danu / Richard Wood
8:30pm, $20adv/$22.50

                                Danu
                “Best Overall Traditional Irish Band”
                        1999 Irish Music Awards

Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw was wrong - youth isn't wasted on
the young, not when an Irish band as talented as Danu comes along. Danu
perform Irish traditional music with a skill and sizzle that have
captured the imagination and loyalty of fans worldwide. All under age
30, the Waterford-based septet "make a most exciting and highly musical
sound that stirs the blood and lifts the heart", according to Dublin's
Irish Music magazine.

Their self-released debut recording, "Danu", quickly caught the
attention of critics and public alike in 1997. Their recent Shanachie
release, "Think Before You Think", certainly delivers all the
high-energy playing for which the band is celebrated. Critical
accolades have kept pace with the growing international popularity of
the group... "Their musicianship is as precise as it is spirited",
claimed The Washington Post. Best to come hear for yourselves!!

                        Richard Wood

>From Prince Edward Island on Canada's East coast comes fiddling
dynamo Richard Wood. He has been wowing audiences for over a decade.

he earned the Don Messer Memorial Trophy for top Maritime fiddler. In
1998 he won Instrumental Artist and Roots/Traditional Artist at the

Wed Jan 23 - Amos Garrett
8pm, $12.50adv/$15 w/ Ken Whiteley & Victor Bateman

Amos Garrett can be accurately called one of the best guitarists in
the world. Chet Atkins said he was, anyway. So did Mark Knopfler of
Dire Straits, and songwriter Richard Thompson, and MOJO Magazine and
countless other folk who know these things.

And he's Canadian, too. Better still, he's undertaking his first
mini-tour in Ontario in many years. His sterling guitar work and his
dry-as-dust humour and his rumbling bass vocals are going to earn him
new fans, and remind the old ones of how very good this artist is.

Embarking on his first "Freezing in the East" tour, he'll be
accompanied by award-winning producer/folk artist/multi-instrumentalist
Ken Whiteley and bassist Victor Bateman in what's billed as an
"electric acoustic evening" of blues-based acoustic rock and roll -
with Amos playing his beloved electric guitar.

Thu Jan 24 - Nonie Crete, Darlene, Peter Verity
8:30pm, $7

Nonie Crete has been a commanding and popular presence on the Ontario
indie music scene since 1992.

A natural storyteller and a prolific songwriter, Crete's heartfelt and
evocative lyrics, her abundance of energy and vitality, her talents as
a composer, guitarist and harmonica player, and her natural musical
diversity has endeared her to audiences of all ages.

Crete released her first indie recording, the cassette New Romance,
in 1994. She followed it up with her first CD a year later - the
critically acclaimed "Maybe I'm a Loner", which has received
considerable radio airplay on programs like CBC's Heartland. A
cassette of a live recording, "Live at Leyanders", was released in
1997. She has just released her fourth recording and second full-length
CD, "The River Grand". Named for the CD's title track, a stunning
musical tribute to the Grand River, "The River Grand" features
Crete's trademark blend of Celtic-folk-country-blues.
