Hey folks -

If you live in the Toronto area, I'd suggest trying to take in this Harry
Manx concert. Harry played a 30-minute set for 400 people here in Ottawa
last night and sold 75 CDs.

Chris

> Harry Manx was born on the Isle of Man, immigrated to Canada as a child
> and returned to Europe in the late seventies to spend many years working
> festivals as a blues lap-slide guitarist/songwriter. He then lived and
> performed in Japan for ten years.
>
> In 1990, while Manx was in Japan, he came across a recording of the Indian
> slide guitarist V.M. Bhatt. It wasn't long before he contacted Bhatt and
> made arrangements to join him in India. Manx became a student of Bhatt's
> and remained with him for five years. They traveled together in India and
> performed before large audiences.
>
> In the spring of 2000, Manx moved back to Canada and set up residence on
> Saltspring Island, in British Columbia. During the summer he recorded his
> first Canadian CD at Randy Bachman s Barn Studios. This debut recording
> features fourteen tracks of Manx doing his one-man-band sound on the lap
> slide guitar, the Mohan Veena (20 stringed Indian guitar), the blues harp
> and vocals. The CD is titled Dog My Cat and is available through Festival
> Distribution in Canada, Big Daddy Music Distribution in the USA.
>
> Manx's music has been called an essential link between the music of the
> East and the West. His songs are short stories that use the essence of
> blues and the depth of Indian ragas to draw you in. Quickly gaining
> acceptance as one of the slide guitar greats, Manx just came back from his
> extremely successful tour of Australia, and will be releasing his next
> album, Wise and Otherwise, in April 2002.
>
> "Manx is truly a unique artist who deserves to be heard by a broader
> audience; he's breaking new musical ground." Edmonton Journal, March
> 2001
>
> "This is an excellent debut CD by a world-class bluesman." Monday
> Magazine, March 2001
