Yes indeed.
Jean made those big cannons for us in 1971 - his first steel string
Dreadnaught style I think. He told me that he wrote a few words about his
impression of our music, rolled them up around the truss rod, and glued them
into the neck. This was during the Folklore Centre, Avenue Rd./MacMaster
days. I used that guitar during my stint with Lazarus and our touring with
Todd Rundgren during my Woodstock years. It truly was a great guitar - but
with one difficult flaw for me: the strings length was 1/2" longer than a
standard D35 Martin. It made it quite unresponsive to string bending and
vibrato - and because the neck was very rigid and wide, it made it hard to
bend the neck for general chord modulation. (Perhaps Michel Dumont or Gordon
Barry could comment on this?)
In a fit of youthful frustration, I sold it to Paul Langille.
Anyone know the whereabouts of this extremely loud, very beautiful (and
likely collector's item) guitar? I only have one picture of it.
Ah youth...
